The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Joseph Daniel Eismont (ASN: 37199034), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as a Medical Aidman with Company E, 1st Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in North Africa on 25 March 1943. When his company was subjected to extremely accurate enemy shell fire, Private Eismont exposed himself to this fire and rendered medical assistance until he was mortally wounded. The courage and high sense of duty displayed by Private Eismont were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
