The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Staff Sergeant Karl D. Farley (ASN: 6974581), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company E, 2d Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in North Africa, in November/December 1942. Sergeant Farley, exhibiting outstanding leadership and remarkable courage, led his men in a successful attack upon the enemy. His deep concern for the safety of his men and his devotion to duty cost him his life in this action. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
