The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Captain (Dental Corps) Alfred A. Dolgin (ASN: 0-309914), United States Army, for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy of the United States while serving with the Medical Detachment, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action at Sicily, on 10 July 1943. After safely reaching shore during landing operations, Captain Dolgin observed several men struggling in the heavy surf and on the verge of drowning. Without regard for treacherous undercurrents, he proceeded to their rescue and successfully assisted three men to shore. The exemplary courage and heroism displayed by Captain Dolgin reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
