The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Theodore L. Dobol (ASN: 6908017), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company K, 3d Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in North Africa and Sicily, during the period from March through July 1943 During an extremely heavy enemy artillery bombardment, the medial aid man of Sergeant Dobol’s company was injured. Sergeant Dobol, although exposed to this fire, rendered medical attention to the wounded and assisted in their evacuation to the rear. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Third Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Fourth Award of the Silver Star to First Sergeant [then Technical Sergeant] Theodore L. Dobol (ASN: 6908017), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company K, 3d Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, on 9 June 1944, at St. Anne, France, where his regiment was engaged in holding its initial beachhead objective. During the night, he was given the mission of contacting the British 56th Brigade at a pre-arranged point. After proceeding several hundred yards, Sergeant Dobol and his small patrol ran into the flank of an enemy counterattacking force. He and his patrol took this superior force under fire and disrupted their attack. Attempting to return to his command post, he was jumped by two Germans. In the ensuing fight, he killed both of the enemy and succeeded in reaching his commanding officer with information which proved valuable in repulsing the attack. First Sergeant Dobol’s gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
