The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Amel C. Jackl (ASN: ER-55003128), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company I, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 25 May 1951, in the vicinity of Amdel-tong, Korea. As his company was clearing high ground, it was subjected to a fierce enemy counterattack which drove it back. Without regard for his own safety, Private Jackl held his position, and fought furiously against the enemy. Locked in close comb at with the enemy, he stubbornly defended his position and delayed the hostile attack until he fell mortally wounded. Friendly artillery and mortar fire broke up the enemy attack and enabled the company to resume its advance. The dauntless courage displayed on this occasion by Private Jackl reflects great credit upon himself and upholds the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
