The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Medical Corps) Hiram W. Davis (ASN: 0-462424), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company B, 1st Medical Battalion, 1st Infantry Division in action against the enemy in the vicinity of Le Mesnil Donat, Normandy, France, 1 August 1944. When an enemy bomber crashed during a heavy aerial bombardment of his battalion, killing and injuring several of our men, Captain Davis fearlessly proceeded to the vicinity of the flaming ship and assisted in carrying the victims to a place of safety, where he administered first aid. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army Medical Corps.
