The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal Alden P. Cochran (ASN: 06909044), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company F, 2d Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in North Africa, during the period from January to June 1943. When his battalion’s ammunition supply became seriously depleted during an enemy attack, Sergeant Cochran led four vehicles across terrain constantly subjected to intense enemy fire and obtained the needed ammunition. His bold action was in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the Military Forces of the United States.
