The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private Russell E. Clymer (ASN: 13053359), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 1st Signal Company, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in North Africa, on 30 April 1943. During an enemy air raid, Private Clymer, a lineman, left his place of cover, deliberately exposed himself to a withering hail of shrapnel and fragments, and manned a machine gun to help drive the enemy aircraft away. Private Clymer’s unselfish act, at the cost of his life, exemplified the highest traditions of the military service and reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
