Headquarters, 1st Infantry Division, General Orders No. 48 (September 19, 1943)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade Donald P. Clark (ASN: 6141282), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company H, 2d Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy North Africa and Sicily, during the period from April through August 1943. During an attack on a strongly fortified enemy position, Corporal Clark moved his radio to a position from which he could relay fire orders from our assault units to an artillery observer unable to observe effectively or to control fire missions because of intense fire. His effort was a positive factor in enabling his battalion to take it’s objective. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
