The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Anthony J. Cipriani (ASN: 0-1286073), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company A, 1st Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in North Africa, during the period from January to May 1943. While reconnoitering enemy communication lines, Lieutenant Cipriani discovered an enemy gun emplacement. Fearlessly exposing himself to this gun, he drew fire, revealing its position to our advancing troops and thereby prevented heavy casualties. Because of his devotion to duty, Lieutenant Cipriani has been reported as missing in action. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
