The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant (Air Corps) Robert S. Alexander, United States Army Air Forces, for extraordinary achievement while serving as Lead Bombardier on many heavy bombardment missions over enemy occupied territory and Germany during World War II. The coolness and exceptional bombing skill of this officer in the face of heavy enemy opposition have been major factors in the successful completion of these missions. Their devotion to duty and determination reflect the highest credit upon themselves and the Armed Forces of the United States.
