    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Andrew Earl Cassidy (ASN: 35720495), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters Company, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in the vicinity of St. Laurent-sur-Mer, Normandy, France, on 6 June 1944. As a scout in the reconnaissance platoon, Private First Class Cassidy carried a radio ashore and when it was smashed soon after, helped drag in supplies and carry wounded to safety. For six hours he toiled ceaselessly before being hit by mortar fire while on his way to the front of his company. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
