Headquarters, 1st Infantry Division, General Orders No. 15 (April 7, 1943)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Sergeant Otis S. Brown (ASN: 6142139), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Battery B, 7th Field Artillery Battalion, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in North Africa during the period from January to April 1943. Having moved his three ammunition trucks to a place of safety, Sergeant Brown organized and led a group of riflemen to a ridge on the left flank of his battery. Although under heavy enemy artillery and machine gun fire he held this position protecting his battery from enemy infiltration, and allowed the removal of more than 400 rounds of 105-mm. ammunition. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
