The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Hubert H. Carver (ASN: 34828450), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in the vicinity of Butgenbach, Belgium, on 24 December 1944. When he discovered a squad of enemy soldiers attempting to infiltrate into friendly positions, Sergeant Carver, with utter disregard for personal safety, courageously engaged them in a fierce fire fight, and despite the heavy automatic weapons barrage directed upon him, inflicted severe casualties, captured several prisoners and routed the remaining hostile force, thereby contributing immeasurably to the security of his organization. Sergeant Carver’s gallant actions and outstanding devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
