The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Ernest Brack (ASN: 20657552), United States Army, for gallantry in action in connection with combat operations against the enemy while serving as a Medical Aidman with the 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in the vicinity of St. Laurent-sur-Mer, Normandy, France, on 6 June 1944. With total disregard for his own safety, Sergeant Brack boldly moved into the face of intense enemy fire and administered first aid to seriously wounded comrades. Sergeant Brack’s prompt and heroic action saved the lives of many men and greatly inspired all who witnessed his courage. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
