    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Perry D. Bonner (ASN: 20815580), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Cannon Company, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in the vicinity of Ferme Cantne, Algeria, 10 November 1942. During the Oran Offensive, while riding in a self-propelled 105-mm. howitzer commanded by a noncommissioned officer, Corporal Bonner, at great personal risk and in the face of heavy enemy machine gun and rifle fire, saved his superior office who was seriously wounded when the vehicle became disabled and caught fire, which threatened to set off at any moment high explosive shells. Corporal Bonner’s heroism under enemy fire was an inspiration to his comrades and was were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service, reflecting great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
