The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant [then Sergeant] Wallace Bidney (ASN: 6147090), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in North Africa, during he period from January to May 1943. Despite a constant and exceedingly heavy enemy artillery barrage, Sergeant Bidney assisted a seriously wounded solder across several miles of barren terrain to a point where medical aid could be given.
