Fred Andrews and his twin brother James were born in Schuyler County, Texas. He relocated to Des Moines, Iowa, to attend Drake University, graduating in 1933. He remained there for three more years of post graduate work, and was ordained a Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) minister. He then pastored the Disciples of Christ Church of Des Moines for four years and then entered military service, serving during World War II as a U.S. Army Chaplain. After retiring as a major, he lived in San Antonio Texas for 38 years, and then moved to Georgetown, Texas in 1995.
