The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant (Armor) Jack O. Leslie (ASN: 0-1290444), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 1st Armored Division in North Africa. On the afternoon of ** **** 1943, Lieutenant Leslie distinguished himself in action against an armed enemy at **** *****. With complete disregard for his own welfare, and by his display of bravery and leadership, he encouraged and assisted the advance of his company through heavy enemy fire. When his company was endangered from friendly artillery fire he voluntarily and through heavy enemy fire went to the rear to request artillery fire be lifted. In accomplishing this mission he was seriously wounded. The initiative, courage and heroic actions of Lieutenant Leslie are deserving of the highest praise and reflect the finest traditions of the Armed Forces.
