The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Bertram Albright (ASN: 13077004), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company A, 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in North Africa, during the period from January to April 1943. Private Albright, who had remained behind to cover the withdrawal of his squad, was encircled by an advancing enemy unit. Although under heavy fire and attacked by unfriendly natives, he successfully penetrated enemy lines and rejoined his organization. His courage, initiative, and stamina under extremely difficult and dangerous circumstances were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
