The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Frederick C. Allstadt (ASN: 12019140), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company B, 1st Engineer Combat Battalion, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in the vicinity of Uckerath, Germany, on 22 – 23 March 1945. Given the mission of clearing the approach to an important objective, Sergeant Allstadt, with utter disregard for personal safety, courageously moved across perilous terrain and removed a demolition charge from a strategically important bridge. Then, despite an intense artillery barrage, he fearlessly neutralized da group of prisoners, thereby greatly facilitating the rapid advance of friendly forces. Sergeant Allstadt’s gallant actions and outstanding initiative were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
