The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Chaplain’s Corps) Anthony Francis DeLaura (ASN: 0-487888), United States Army, for gallantry in action and disregard for personal safety in action against an armed enemy while serving as a Chaplain with the 47th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division, on 10 September 1944, during operations in Germany. Chaplain DeLaura rescued ten injured men from an uncharted minefield before being wounded. Despite his injury, he carried on with the work, carrying more casualties to safety. Chaplain DeLaura showed disregard for personal safety and his gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, demonstrated without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
