The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class James L. Curtis (ASN: 39678332), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 60th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division. While at *****, Tunisia, on the night of ** April 1943, Private First Class Curtis did receive wounds in action while manning his machine gun during an attack but was able to help evacuate some wounded men of his gun crew and after receiving only the most necessary first aid, returned to his gun and manned his position throughout the rest of the attack. Though Private Curtis was in great pain from his wounds his action was in no doubt instrumental in repelling the attack.
