The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Lieutenant General George Edward Stratemeyer (ASN: 0-3893/5A), United States Army Air Forces, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility in the China Theater from June to November 1945, in establishing sound policies for air operations. His coordination of the maximum use of air power with ground forces and his tact and diplomacy in dealing with Chinese officials resulted in the close cooperation between the two Allied Nations which was a material contribution to the victory in China. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Lieutenant General Stratemeyer and his dedicated contributions in the service of his country reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Forces.
