The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Chaplain’s Corps) Timothy M. Andrysiak, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as a Chaplain with the 9th Infantry Division, In action in North Africa, in 1943. During an intense shelling of his battalion area by enemy artillery, Chaplain Andrysiak, Regimental Chaplain, Disregarded opportunities to seek positions of relative security and quickly moved out among wounded men in the area with shells bursting on all sides, and assisted in caring for them on the battlefield, thereby hastening their evacuation to the aid station. Chaplain Andrysiak’s heroic action was during shelling within 100 yards of our outpost lines at known risk of his own life, and with utter disregard of personal safety. His coolness and efficiency under fire, with advance elements of the battalion being threatened by enemy infantry on the flank of the position, was encouraging to the wounded and inspiring to the whole command. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Chaplain Andrysiak, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Forces.
