The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fourth Grade Joe T. Accomando (ASN: 34078715), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 70th Tank Battalion (L), 9th Infantry Division, in action on 9 November 1942, about six miles southeast of Port Lyautey, French Morocco. Technician Fourth Grade Accomando while under fire from enemy machine guns and at the risk of his life assisted in removing and carrying wounded comrades from their disabled tank to the nearest first aid station.
