Headquarters, 36th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 64 (March 5, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Rolly W. Walker (ASN: 38892759), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company B, 142d Infantry Regiment, 38th Infantry Division, in action on 2 February 1945, in France. When an enemy tank, supported by two other tanks firing from a nearby road junction, attacked a house occupied by a squad of the 1st Platoon, the squad was forced to withdraw. Private First Class Walker, a member of another squad, approached the abandoned house with a companion in an attempt to deliver bazooka fire on the tank. Entering the house, he and his comrade exposed themselves to fire from the tank, now only 25 yards away, in order to reach an advantageous position. Opening fire, they scored a direct hit on the turret, killing the enemy machine gunner, and left the house just as two shells from the tank crashed through the building. By his courage and aggressiveness, Private First Class Walker helped eliminate a serious threat to the safety of his unit.
