The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Edward F. Huffman (ASN: RA-19364219), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company E, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 13 February 1953 in the vicinity of Kowang-ni, North Korea. On that date Corporal Huffman was serving as a Squad Leader in a platoon that had successfully completed a raid on Hill 220. As the unit was returning to its own lines, it was discovered that one member of the patrol, who had been wounded during the conflict, was missing. Without hesitation, Corporal Huffman turned his squad over to the assistant squad leader and with complete disregard for personal safety, returned to the enemy lines to find the missing man. Searching for his wounded comrade through the fire swept area, Corporal Huffman, oblivious to the dangers involved, succeeded in locating the injured man. Finding him too weak to walk, he then carried him back to friendly lines. The gallantry and selfless devotion to duty exhibited by Corporal Huffman on this occasion reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
