The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Private E. Michael Burk, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 12 May 1864, while serving with Company D, 125th New York Infantry, in action at Spotsylvania, Virginia, for capture of flag, seizing it as his regiment advanced over the enemy’s works. Private Burk received a bullet wound in the chest while capturing flag.
