The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to Lieutenant Colonel (Infantry) Andrew F. Price, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 36th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Italy, on 22 January 1944. Colonel Price, Executive Officer of an Infantry Regiment, went forward to inspect the disposition and arrangements of two battalions which were reorganizing under heavy enemy artillery, mortar, and small arms fire. Although constantly exposed to heavy artillery fire, he remained at the battalion command posts over an hour transmitting the orders for fortification and continuation of the attack. Colonel Price was instrumental in bringing about the success of the attacks.
