The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Keith Vincent Huffstutler (ASN: US-54900697), United States Army, for gallantry in action in connection with military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam. Private First Class Huffstutler distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous action on 1 November 1967, while serving as a pathfinder with the 11th Pathfinder Company, 11th Aviation Group, 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile), during a combat mission in the Republic of Vietnam. When his unit became pinned down by intense hostile fire, Private First Class Huffstutler, disregarding his own safety, exposed himself to the heavy enemy fire as he attempted to assault the hostile emplacements. While moving forward in an attempt to neutralize the hostile position, Private First Class Huffstutler became mortally wounded. Private First Class Huffstutler’s gallant action was in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
