(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Private First Class William Keener (ASN: 38036425), United States Army, was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action while serving with the 36th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy during World War II. Private First Class Keener left his place of cover, though ordered not to attempt the dangerous task by his platoon leader, and man an attempt to install ware. There was no cover or concealment but he continued across the fire-swept field, Although wounded by shell fragments, he worked until contact with the Observation Post had been successfully made. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
