Headquarters, 3d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 257 (July 15, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant [then Sergeant] Stanley W. Brach (ASN: 36661360), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company G, 2d Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division. On 17 April 1945, at 1100 hours, near Nurnberg, Germany, when a concealed machine gun nest 150 yards to their front opened fire, Staff Sergeant Brach immediately engaged the enemy position. Although enemy fire barely missed him, Staff Sergeant Brach leaped from his position and raced 140 yards over level, open terrain firing as he went and silenced the enemy strongpoint, killing two of the enemy and wounding one. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
