The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Specialist Fourth Class Kenneth Leon Green (ASN: RA-19865325), United States Army, for gallantry in action against a hostile force on 27 September 1967 while serving with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion (Airborne), 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 101st Airborne Division in the Republic of Vietnam. Specialist Fourth Class Greene was observing a river crossing when enemy movement was detected on the opposite shore. Upon spotting the enemy, Specialist Greene engaged them with accurate rifle fire which killed on North Vietnamese soldier. Almost immediately, the enemy had Specialist Green located and they opened fire on his position with a heavy volume of automatic weapons fire. With no thought of his own safety, Specialist Greene charged forward into the deadly hail of fire in a valiant assault on the enemy. Specialist Fourth Class Greene’s outstanding gallantry was in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflects great credit upon himself, the Americal Division, and the United States Army.
