The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Legion of Merit to Lieutenant Colonel (Infantry), [then Colonel] John Hersey Michaelis (ASN: 0-20328), United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Senior Aid to the Chief of Staff of the United States Army from 5 June 1945 to 7 February 1948. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Colonel Michaelis and his dedicated contributions in the service of his country reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Army. XI, General Orders 70, WD 1947, pertaining to the award of the Army Commendation Ribbon to Lieutenant Colonel Michaelis (then Colonel), for service from June 1945 to May 1947, is rescinded.)
