Citation Needed – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes Pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Medical Corps) Edward N. Zinschlag, United States Army, for gallantry in action as an Army Surgeon during the siege of Bastogne in December 1944. Captain Zinschlag volunteered to fly to the American strongpoint by glider and performed a number of surgical operations in the 48 hours before tanks arrived to rescue the beleaguered infantry troops. Captain Zinschlag’s outstanding gallantry and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflects great credit upon himself, and the United States Army.
