(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Captain (Infantry) Keith Grayson Chatfield (ASN: 0-24969), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as Commanding Officer of Company C, 1st Battalion, 407th Infantry Regiment, 102d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 29 November 1944, in Holland. While leading his company in an attack in the bitter fighting t the Roer River, Captain Chatfield was mortally wounded while attempting to render aid to some of his men who had become casualties. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Captain Chatfield, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
