The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant George Garcia (ASN: 31291121), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company B, 150th Engineer Combat Battalion, 1135th Engineer Combat Group, in action against an armed enemy on 6 February 1945, in Luxembourg. Sergeant Garcia was in charge of three assault boats during the actual crossing of the Our River under intense artillery, mortar and small arms fire. Although most of his boat crew became casualties, he continued crossing the Infantry and evacuating the wounded aggressively until his three boats were sunk by enemy fire. He immediately secured another assault boat and resumed his vital mission. Upon each occasion, Sergeant Garcia, with utter disregard for his personal safety, under an intense enemy barrage, volunteered to cross the river in search for a member of his crew who had become a casualty. Although this attempt to rescue the member of his crew proved futile, the outstanding gallantry, dauntless courage, and faithful efforts displayed by Sergeant Garcia in this operation reflects great credit upon himself and upholds the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
