Citation Needed – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes Pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Norman L. Freeman, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Cannon Company, 60th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division. On ** April 1943, in the vicinity of ********, Tunisia, Second Lieutenant Freeman, with Private First Class Orby L. Kelly, rushed to a 30 Caliber machine gun mounted on a one-quarter ton truck and operated the machine gun in the face of eight low-flying ME-109’s and Stukas. Second Lieutenant Freeman’s great courage and devotion to duty which cost him his life reflects the highest credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
