The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Corps of Engineers Grosch C. Beaudet, Jr. (ASN: 0-1107792), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company A, 150th Engineer Combat Battalion, 1135th Engineer Combat Group, in action against an armed enemy on 25 November 1944, in France. While constructing a Bailey Bridge over the Sarre River in the vicinity of Fenestrange, France, Lieutenant Beaudet displayed unusual heroism by continually spurring his men on to successfully complete their mission. During the day the site was subjected to sporadic artillery fire in an attempt by the enemy to knock out the bridge. Lieutenant Beaudet repeatedly led his men back to the bridge following each barrage. He was always the first to arrive back at the site following a barrage and the last to leave the site each time, remaining to assure himself that the men had safely reached cover. On one occasion, rather than order his men out on the bridge, Lieutenant Beaudet personally went out and commenced work on the bridge. He was joined by a few volunteers and successfully completed his assigned mission. Lieutenant Beaudet’s superb and courageous leadership was a definite urge for his men to continue work even under the severest of conditions. Lieutenant Beaudet’s outstanding heroism and superior leadership reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
