The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit with Combat “V” to Lieutenant Colonel Olin L. Beall (MCSN: 0-1937), United States Marine Corps, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States in Korea while serving as Commanding Officer, First Marine Motor Transport Battalion, FIRST Marine Division (Reinforced), in action against enemy aggressor forces in Korea during the period from 3 November 1950 through 15 March 1951. Lieutenant Colonel Beall discharged his responsibilities expertly and with meticulous attention to detail, effectively coordinating and assisting the highly efficient operations of his battalion. A capable, industrious and resourceful leader, he was directly responsible for the effectiveness of his battalion in a situation involving extremely adverse weather and terrain conditions. His initiative, excellent judgment, and executive ability contributed materially to the success achieved by his battalion. Lieutenant Colonel Beall’s skilled services and exemplary conduct throughout this period were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
