Castleman, Jr., United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as a forward observer with the 26th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Luxembourg on 12 December 1944. Lieutenant Castleman set up a new observation post under intense fire when his Division was temporarily halted by machine gun fire from German enemy tanks along the German border. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
