The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” to Private Paul V. Stauffacher (ASN: US-55034654), United States Army, for heroic achievement during ground operations against a hostile force as a member of the Medical Company, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. Private Stauffacher was a member of a litter team going to the aid of several wounded men, near Uijongbu, Korea, on 24 March 1951. As the team approached the area where the wounded men were, Private Stauffacher realized that the only route, which they could take to complete their mission, was through a village under heavy mortar fire. After having made his way successfully to the men, he ascertained that the seriousness of their wounds made a hasty evacuation mandatory and disregarding his own safety, helped to evacuate the soldiers through a mine-infested area. The heroism and tenacity exhibited by Private Stauffacher reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
