The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Marlyn K. Sisson (ASN: US-55039922), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company H, 2d Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 25 April 1951, near Taejon-ni, Korea, Private Sisson’s platoon was strongly attacked by a large enemy force which forced the unit to withdraw to more tenable positions. When the order to pull back was given, Private Sisson volunteered to remain behind and blow up the excess ammunition supply to prevent it from falling into the hands of the enemy. Braving the enemy fire, he remained in position until the last elements of two companies had left. Then, with the enemy advancing toward him, he blew up the ammunition supply, killing some of the hostile troops in their forward movement. Private Sisson’s action aided materially in the successful withdrawal of his unit and kept the enemy from capturing stocks of ammunition. The gallant and selfless courage displayed by Private Sisson reflects the highest credit upon himself and the military service.
