Brogdon, Jr. (ASN: 37640287), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Company E, 2d Battalion, 328th Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces in France, on 22 November 1944. While advancing against Munster, France, Company E began to attack through the woods after artillery had blasted a path. Private Brogdon was edging up with his squad when a shell fragment struck him in the leg. He declined treatment, telling Aidmen to treat the more seriously wounded, and dragged himself to the shelter of a nearby barn to treat his wound. Observing his squad leader fall, he hobbled back to his squad and took command, leading them through heavy fighting to the town. Throughout the night he limped to through the perimeter to post and encourage his guards. The following day he was evacuated to the battalion aid station, despite his protests to remain in the line. Private Brogdon’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 26th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
