The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Herbert L. Teague (ASN: RA-16311757), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company L, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 16 September 1950 in the vicinity of Changnyong, Korea. On that date his company was assaulting enemy positions along the Naktong River. During the reorganization of the company at its first limited objective, three enemy snipers directed small arms fire into the company from theirwell-entrenched positions. Sergeant Teague immediately and with complete disregard for his personal safety charged the hostile positions and killed all three enemy snipers with his rifle fire. His heroic charge permitted the orderly reorganization and subsequent continued advance of his company and prevented serious casualties to his comrades. The gallantry displayed on this occasion by Sergeant Teague reflects the highest credit upon himself is in keeping with the fine traditions of the military service.
