The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Corps of Engineers), [then First Lieutenant] Anthony Pecoraro (ASN: 0-59873), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company C, 65th Engineer Combat Battalion, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 2 and 3 September 1950, in Korea. On 2 September 1950, during an attack on enemy positions near Masan, Korea, Captain Pecoraro braved intense hostile machine gun and rifle fire to lead his company in an Assault to seize the objective. On 3 September 1950, he led his company against an enemy position which was defended by numerically superior hostile forces strongly supported by mortars and machine guns. Despite the overwhelming odds, he inspired his men to attack aggressively, overrun the position, inflict numerous casualties and capture valuable equipment. Captain Pecoraro’s indomitable courage and inspiring leadership reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Army.
