The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Lester McPherson (ASN: RA-6154270), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Battery C, 7th Field Artillery Battalion, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in North Africa in 1943. Corporal McPherson, in full view and range of enemy weapons, chopped down trees and brush in front of his artillery piece to prepare a clear field of fire for direct laying.
