The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Sergeant Decatur Dorsey, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 30 July 1864, while serving with Company B, 39th U.S. Colored Infantry, in action at Petersburg, Virginia. Sergeant Dorsey planted his colors on the Confederate works in advance of his regiment, and when the regiment was driven back to the Union works he carried the colors there and bravely rallied the men.
