The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Floyd E. Culpepper (ASN: RA-18282440), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company B, 1st Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. A task force advancing in the vicinity of Sinen-ayan, Korea, on 25 September 1950, encountered determined resistance from strong enemy forces occupying commanding positions. During the fire fight which followed, Corporal Culpepper observed that a .50 caliber machine gun mounted on a tank was not in operation. Leaving the comparative safety of his position, he manned the machine gun; although exposed to devastating crossfire he remained in his exposed position and delivered effective fire on the hostile force until it withdrew. Corporal Culpepper’s courage, indomitable fighting spirit and staunch devotion to duty greatly facilitated the advance of the task force, and reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the United States Army.
